Story of Bertolli olive oils started in Lucca (Tuscany), where Francesco Bertolli was born in 1865. At first it was a small emporium selling typical local food: olive oil, wine, cheese, olives.
There were lots of Italian emigrants in America and they find themselves missing the food of their heritage. So, they asked Francesco Bertolli to send boxes of his famous olive oil, making Bertolli brand the pioneer of history of olive oil in the USA. Since this, Bertolli brand has been exported to new places from Australia to South America and to Africa. Today Bertolli is the World´s n 1 olive oil brand and present in more than 40 countries.
Bertolli company was the first olive oil company to indent on the label the important health benefits of olive oil for consumers. It was also the first to introduce different types and flavors of olive oil for their customers. In the early 1950´s, glass bottles were introduced, with the slogan “Buy what you see”. Before that, olive oil was packaged in metal cans and drums.
But how does Bertolli make their worldwide number one olive oils? Bertolli’s expertise lye in the art of blending. It all starts when farmers pick the olives from the olive trees and transport their harvest to the nearest oil mill, and from all these Bertolli receives oil samples, which are then tested in Bertolli laboratories to select the best quality oils. Once the right samples have been selected, they are sent to Bertolli factories, where Bertolli’s master blenders works by combining different oils to obtain a high-quality olive oil, rich in flavors and nuances, and to satisfy all types of palates.
